LOCAL FOLKS — Library director provides glimpse of medieval experience
Rich Haynes, director of the Whitfield Public Library in Harlan, uses
his experience as a SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) member
to allow area children the opportunity to get the feel for the real medieval
times by allowing them to see him dressed in his armor as well as allowing
them the experience of being able to practice the combat of the era.
Haynes, a paid member of the SCA since he was a freshman in
college, said the area children love to get involved with the medieval
armored foot combat in which he specializes because it gives them
a real sense of being able to see first hand how the warriors of that time lived.
